Rhamnus purshiana
Traditionally this sacred bark was used by Native Americans. This bark promotes bowel movement, stimulates digestion, reduces liver congestion, stimulated appetite, promotes urination, and resolves toxicosis. Best is used sporadically with a combination of healthy diet and exercise. It is contraindicated with colitis and other acute conditions that cause inflammation. Cascara bard should be used with caution during pregnancy and large dosages should not be used with any deficiency conditions.
