Hydrastis

Goldenseal is a North American remedy, prized during the 19th century as a cure-all. The Cherokee and other Native Americans used it ,mixed with bear fat, as an insect repellent, and they also made it into lotion for wounds, ulcers, and sore, inflamed eyes. It was given internally for stomach and liver problems. Today it is employed as an astringent, antibacterial remedy for the mucous membranes of the body.

 

Catarrhal or follicular conjunctivitis; as an eyewash in acute ophthalmia.

Aphthous stomatitis (as a wash and internally).

Herpes topically (also internally).

Ceruminosis with eczema, externally.

Subacute head cold with thick mucus.

Acute granular pharyngitis.

Subacute granular pharyngitis with thick, gagging mucus (internal and external).

Chronic pharyngitis with pale, relaxed mucosa.

Chronic or subacute rhinitis.

Chronic sinusitis with edematous turninates, relaxed and purplish; or with thick ropy mucus, frontal headaches.

Subacute tonsillitis with crypt catarrh.

Hemorrhage from congested, boggy mucosa

Chronic anorexia with colon, rectal catarrh.
